Guest Services Host
Reports To: Director of Guest Services
Pay Range: $7.25-$8 DOE
Position Summary:
The Guest Service Host will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of guest service, safety, and satisfaction. The Guest Service Host will be our guest´s fist line of contact and will properly handle all transactions related to the guest experience with accuracy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Smile! It is essential that all guests are warmly greeted and welcomed with enthusiasm. If we are happy about the aquarium, our guests will be happy too!
- Arrive on time, well groomed and in uniform for each shift.
- Keep work areas clean and orderly.
- Ensure all public areas and guest service areas are safe and clean at all times.
- Ensure all transactions are completed with accuracy.
- Ensure all tickets/products are rung up using the proper ticket/product category.
- Interact with guests in the gallery/exhibit areas to ensure that their experience is positive.
- Work assignments will be split between ticketing, the gift shop and the café.
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Guest Services, Shift Leader or Café Assistant Manager.
- Assist with the production and fulfillment of the photo booth.
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities (If Applicable):
None. However, we are always looking to promote from within - who knows; maybe you´ll be our next Shift Leader!
Qualifications Necessary to Perform the Job:
The Guest Services Host must possess previous experience in retail, food service or other customer service experience. The candidate should have excellent communication, presentation, and organizational skills.
Physical Demands of the Job:
This job requires extended periods of standing and some light lifting; 20-30 pounds.
Special Working Conditions:
Standing for long periods of time, walking, typing, and answering phones. Where else can you see sharks, spitting fish, and penguins all before you start work? Oh, and don´t forget our really cool Green sea turtle, giant pacific octopus, and piranhas!
This Position Is:
Non Exempt and REQUIRES working on rotating Saturdays and Sundays. Your application will not be considered if you cannot work Saturdays and Sundays. This is for our early shift and you may be scheduled between 9am and 5pm.

Job DescriptionJoin The Living Planet Aquarium in this professional and educational opportunity. Interns at The Living Planet Aquarium will report to the Volunteer and Internship Coordinator. The Photography Intern will have the opportunity to work in a corporate commercial setting. They will assist in all aspects of producing both web and print ready images, along with joining us on any photo shoots or photography project that arise throughout their internship.
- Work with cutting edge digital image capture systems
- Gain working knowledge of entertainment operations
- Experience developing product photography for The Living Planet Aquarium Brochures, websites, Photography booth and marketing materials
- Gain hands-on experience working on site at TLPA
- Participate in the production of location photo shoots for multiple projects
- Benefit from high quality additions to your working portfolio
- Rising Junior or Senior enrolled in an accredited college/university
- Be well versed in both analog and digital photography
- Basic knowledge of lighting systems for multiple settings
- Strong working knowledge of Photoshop

We need a Café Assistant at The Living Planet Aquarium´s Calypso Cafe
The Living Planet Aquarium is now hiring an outgoing, energetic, and friendly Café Assistant in Sandy. We are looking for a few part-time employees to cover between 10am and 6pm shifts may vary and include weekends. If you like to work in a fun high energy and full service environment, then the Aquarium might be the right job for you.
Our Café Assistant will work a rotating schedule with shifts either opening or closing. Working weekends is a must. Some later nights might be required for catered events. Our new Café Assistant should have some food prep experience, and a steady work history!!
We will train the right person!!

Position: Public Programs Education Presenter

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Understand, support and share with others TLPA’s mission and vision
- Deliver engaging, high-energy, creative, dynamic and accurate educational presentations, both planned and impromptu, to guests
- Communicate and interact effectively with guests of all ages in a positive and pleasant manner
- Safely handle a variety of animals (spiders, amphibians, reptiles, insects, birds) with a comfortable demeanor
- Prepare, manage and utilize presentation supplies and materials appropriately
- Represent TLPA at special events as needed
- Additional duties as assigned by Director of Education
- DYNAMIC public speaking skills and out-going personality - performing arts experience a plus
- Ability to learn quickly complex and/or factual information then communicate it to a wide variety of audiences in an ENGAGING and CREATIVE manner

Architectural Intern
(PAID) College School Internships
Overview of OrganizationThe Living Planet Aquarium is building a new world class Aquarium in Spring 2012. We are looking for 2-3 students that are interested in gaining real world experience and growing their portfolio and resume by participating in the design of the new 90,000 sq ft aquarium.
DescriptionThis internship will give the intern’s a hands on knowledge and understanding of working directly on a very complex building alongside Aquarium Exhibit Design Team, and interface with architects, planners, contractors and engineers from CLC, Layton Construction, Cache Valley Electric and MSS Mechanical from design through construction. Interns will have the opportunity to work with experienced professionals in their field and take part in this project from all levels. We are looking for self-starters, who are detail oriented and forward thinking.
Essential ResponsibilitiesInterns will assist with the building design, exhibit design, site planning, master planning of a 90,000 sq ft aquarium and a 16 acre development.
Position Qualifications- Enrolled in a Masters Degree Program in Architecture.
- Technically proficient with an ability to read and understand construction documents.
- Willing to take direction; Ability to interact positively with project and work teams.
- Communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work and understand the requirements of a project, present alternatives and recommendations.
- Experience with the use of personal computers (CAD, 3D Visualization, and rendering software)
- Hand graphics are preferred
- Successfully complete the interview process and criminal background check.
- Forward thinking and good organizational skills
- Completion of 180 Hours or more

The Living Planet Aquarium

TopPosition: Maintenance Assistant
Reports To: Director of Operations
Position Summary:The primary responsibilities of the Maintenance Assistant at The Living Planet Aquarium are upkeep, cleanliness, appearance and general maintenance of exhibits and guest areas. This position will act in conjunction with all departments to unsure guest safety and satisfaction of our facility appearance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Provide daily cleaning and care of assigned exhibit halls and front of the house public areas.
- Clean back of house area according to established cleaning schedule.
- Walk the exhibit halls daily and make observations of exhibits for repair and preform repairs as scheduled.
- Provide alternate coverage for other tasks and or repairs as assigned.
- Ensure all Guest/Public areas are kept clean, organized and hazard free as well as well lit.
- Perform daily and weekly outside tasks such as, but not limited to, parking lot clean up, flower bed weeding, sprinkling system maintenance, snow removal, painting, and other such clean up and repairs.
Our Maintenance Assistant must possess a high school diploma and experience and knowledge in building maintenance and repair. Must demonstrate a mechanical aptitude to learn the basics of pumps, painting, and general equipment necessary to maintain and repair exhibits and strength and endurance to perform physical demands of essential job functions with or without accommodation. On the job training will be provided. Candidates must possess a high-energy work ethic and a positive attitude.
Physical Demands of the Job:This job requires extended periods of standing, heavy lifting up to 60 lbs, working on ladders and in slippery wet conditions and the use of multiple varieties of equipment and power tools.

Special Working Conditions:Working with and around potentially dangerous chemicals and animals.
This Position Is:Non-Exempt, Part Time
Work Schedule:Monday through Friday with an occasional weekend as needed including an occasional Sunday.
